Newbie here with remote starter question.
Hello guys,
I'm new to this forum. My wife has a 02 dodge stratus, V6, auto, factory keyless entry.
I searched forum and didnt find any threads to answer my questions. I was looking into installing a remote starter this weekend, for this car as a chritmas present. I'm not familier with dodge at all, but I'm mechanically inclined to fixing(working) on cars. I have alloted entire day for this(hopefully I can finish in 3-5 hours) I have few questions about installing remote starter..........
1) Is it too complicated?? I mean, is the stratus's wiring too sensitive?? Do I have to take it to a professional??
2) What make/model should I stick to... is there any remote starters perticularly for dodge(chrysler)??
3) Is there a direct fit-in one from factory??
4) What kinda passlock(passkey) do I have to get to bypass the security.... or Do stratus need a passlock??
5) Is there a neutral safety switch for startus(I assume there should be one) and where is it located and how to acess it??
6) What are the precautions I have to take during installation?? things not to do....
7) does anyone have access to Wiring diagram ...
Thanks in advance!!!
Any help and advice much appreciated!!![sm=feedback.gif]

well first and formost is the car the 2 door coupe, R/T, or is it the 4 door sedan? the coupe has all mitsubishi electronics. i know your going to need a kit that uses your spare key to trigger the system to let the car start. it sits under the dash. the key has a chip in it that the ignition pics up to allow the car to start. look into this if indeed you have the coupe.
the key thing is for the coupe. the key is needed because the key has a little micro-chip in it. the ignition needs that signal from the chip to start the car. its like a anti theft kinda thing. im not sure how it works in the sedan, thats why i mentioned it was for the coupe, the coupe has all mitsubishi electronics in it. if i were you i would go to your area stereo place and ask them how involved it is, im sure they are going to try and talk you into letting them do it but just ask them about the wiring and such
I had a remote starter in my truck i had but i didnt put it in my step-dad did because it was his truck at that time it took him about all day!!
The one bad thing about my ram was that the auto start didnt allways work on cold days lie it should and it would f;lood the engine and you would have to wait 30 mins for it to fix its self it wa a real pain!!

If the key is gray and has a chip you need to get an anti theft bypass module. DEI Makes these and I also have one for dodge that I didn't have to use on my wifes Liberty. All you need is a wiring schematic, a multimeter, and a weekend. They are really easy to install.
