My wife recently backed into my 2005 Stratus. While replacing the driver side headlight assembly, I noticed what looks like a vacuum canister mounted inside the bumper just below the headlight. It is in front of the battery and is about half the size of the battery. It is a black plastic box that appear to have one small vacuum hose going into the top.

The hose is not connected, and was apparently damaged in the collision because the fitting is snapped off. However, I have not noticed any systems in the vehicle that are malfunctioning so I am not sure what the purpose is for this vacuum line.

Questions:
1. Is this a vacuum canister?
2. What is it's function?
