98 Stratus leaks alot of oil... any idea where from? cylinder head?
My wifes 98 Stratus is leaking alot of oil. About a 1/2 quart every two weeks.
It seems to be coming from the back of the motor near the top???
Somebody told me that their might be problems with this engines cylinder head leaking from the head gasket. He said he knows the Neon's had this problem but wasn't sure about the Stratus
engine is a 2.4 litre.
ANY OPINIONS?

In the same boat as you. Mother inlaw's '98 2.4 is leaking tons of oil out the gasket. My dodge dealer tells me it from the Corner near the brake booster. I am going to change the gasket tonight with the new version from Dodge. Should be a fun weekend.

WELL.........HERE'S THE CRAPPY NEWS
Confirmed Head Gasket...........GREAT........ 100,000 kms/60,000 miles and the piece of crap is leaking.
Called Chrysler who say "oh, that's not a regular problem"......... I said "Really, go check the internet"
DO THEY HONESTLY THINK THE WORLD IS THAT STUPID?
Anyway........ one real question I need to know.
HOW MANY OF YOU RECOMMEND CHANGING THE HEAD WHEN DOING THE HEAD GASKET? THE GUY THAT FOUND IT TOLD ME THAT YOU USUALLY HAVE TO CHANGE THE HEAD DUE TO PITTING?
ANY OPINIONS?

That's only something that can be checked once the head if off. If the pitting goes beyond the gaskets sealing surface the head will have to be replaced. If it is only slightly pitting around the hole I would leave it since it would not leak.
I just finished changing my mother inlaws head gasket and the head did have a small amount of pitting but nothing crazy, just slightly around the hole and not outward at all.
Make sure to us a Dodge head gasket as they are the revised mulptiple layered steel ones and don't leak ever again. Also take care when handling the exhaust manifold as they can crack easily trying to remove them.
