Why can DC not do this? Why must the stock Viper only have 510HP? I think they have deals with the ASCs and Hennesseys of the world.

This car does not impress me, why? Because it is not a factory beast. You have been able to push Viper's up and over the top of many cars for years with 3rd party vendors.....

What he is saying, is that car should come STOCK like that. The fact is, the Viper is getting its butt handed to it by angry fans and owners. The car shouldnt be playing second fiddle to a car that costs 20 grand less then it does.

Basically, the Viper should be a 625hp beast to start with, not this piddly *** 510hp wuss that is getting owned by a Corvette.

I think Derrick said it about right. The Viper really isn't a beast compared to other vehicles that are the same price, even less. Mopar is 2nd party also.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Besides the Corvette, the Viper is the best super car bargain...

but it looks much cooler..

and when you buy a z06, you have just another corvette...a viper is a whole different breed...when you see a poorvette, do you turn around as it drives and say "wow, a corvette"? if you do, then you either live and the ghetto, or you dont get out enough, but either way, you are doing something where vettes arent commonplace...on the other hand, vipers turn heads...THATS what youre paying for.

more pics of the diamondback.

Once the Viper makes it to its 50th anniversary, I'm sure we'll be saying the same about the Viper....assuming it can even make it that long. The reason you say that now about a Corvette, is because its been around so long.

I remember when I was a kid seeing a Porsche or a Ferrari was not a common thing here in the USA....now it is....I see Porsche's daily and I see the occassional Ferrari downtown on the weekend. The point is, is at some point, a car becomes common, regardless of what kind of car it is. Now, an Enzo will always be an Enzo, same with the Lamborghini Diablo......but those cars cost what most good homes cost......

The Viper has been a breed of its own much like the Corvette was in its early days, but at some point, it will either have to become more mainstream or it will get dropped by DCX....why else would they even consider making a V8 Firepower? Easy, the V10 is underpowered and too expensive to mass produce...why else do ya think they created the SRT-10....to help offset costs...

Argue it all ya like, but those are real facts.....at some point the Viper will either become a common car like the Corvette and Porsche.....or it will be retired...

but the vette became americans household performance car because in the 70s they sold the crappy, watered down models...there has always been a stripped down "affordable" corvette..there has never been an affordable viper. everytime i see a ferrari, i do take notice...but not so much with the porsche...my lawyer had a porsche, and they have never seemed "Special" to me, especially since you can get a 944 NT for next to nothing...

also, the production and sales numbers for the viper are so low, which is another reason that they are "special". since the viper hit the market, id like to know how many vettes have been made/sold compared to the viper...C4 and C5 vettes are literally a dime a dozen..i see people around here driving C5s in the snow! ive never seen a viper in the snow...also, vettes come with auto trans..enough said.

That's all very true Pat, but I think the Viper was the beneficiary of coming around at a time when most of the American made "sportscars" were either dying or really werent on the top of their game. Also, the Viper does benefit from such limited production numbers that it can afford to keep certain aspects of the car unique. It's easy to do such when you make so little amount, but when you make it mass produced, well, then you have a different thing to talk about.

And see, you just re-iterated part of my point. You can get Porsches for dirt cheap now, but 20 years ago you couldnt.....after a while a car starts to either become common, or they slowly phase out....Imagine if DCX does produce the Firepower.....the people who might have saved up another year to buy a Viper, might not wait around then.....especially since the Firepower most likely will see limited production as well....

All I'm saying is, see how the car looks in 20 years, if its even still around.
