You would need the motor and computer, it would also, in the long run, devalue the car. GEN I Vipers, at some point, will be collector cars. No different than the 50s vettes. First of their kind.

See sig for the truck.

One thing I hate about the earlier Viper Models is the Steering Wheels. Well and the Cassette Players. How hard would it be to replace a steering wheel?

I thought Gen I was rt, Gen II GTS, and Gen III SRT10.[8D] If thats the case then the 2008 viper will be Gen IV.

08 will most likely be a GEN IV, but GEN II had both GTS and RT's. This is learned in Viper 101, you must have slept in that class.

Some things you should consider

You mentioned you want this to be your daily driver. The amount of $$ to keep these cars on the road is a bit high. I am not talking about gas and Ins, although they will get you. I am talking about maintenance and parts. If you are budgeting you have to factor in repairs. SOme examples, tires alone will run you $1000-$1500, depending on what kind you get. And, they do not last long! Oil changes, you will probably go synthetic? A little under 10qts go in. With filter you are around $60 if you do it yourself. These are two things I like to point out and they are double the normal costs, yet they are just normal items. Now for the abnormal.....

Lets say you go after a GEN I because that is what your budgets demands. What happens if you need brakes? You can not go to your local parts store and get pads. DC or a few other Viper specialty stores only. Figure $200 for the fronts and another $200 for the rear, plus install. This replacement part issue is not just brake pads, but many parts you would think you could walk into your local place and get. Many of the aftermarket part makers just do not make the parts for Vipers because there is not enough cars out there, even less being used, that will give them profit to desgin and produce the parts.

Another thought, lets say you get a GEN I and it has yet to have the head gaskets replaced. The head gaskets were bad from the facotry and if not replaced will fail at some point. Well, like the other parts not something you pickup anywhere. Get this, cost, minimal, $600, that is if you are lucky. And no, I do not mean $600 installed, that is just the gaskets! Ever pay $600 for paper and some sealer? This is what is called the "Viper tax".

If this is a daily driver expect water inside. GEN I tops and windows leak. Even if you have a hard top and aftermarket windows. Also, no locks. How does the idea of driving it to school and a club and leaving it unlocked sound?

I am not trying to scare you from buying the car, the perks are great. But there are many things to consider and I am just listing a few. If you want a daily driver I would really recommend a GEN II GTS simply for the locks and water free interior.
