Adding 50-75hp and reducing weight.....may make it faster...but not by a whopping margin...we're talking maybe a full second possibly....but again....just because you have added hp and reduced weight....still doesnt mean you'll be crushing the competition....

Actually 1 second in the production world is a huge difference, but that small HP gain would not get you 1 second in the 1/4. I am assuming you are talking 1/4 mile as there is no way in, ummm heck, that a HP increase that small and a little weight redcution will get you a 1 second 0-60 increase on a car that already does 3.5ish. Even if they change the gearing and gave the car a 75HP increase it will still not gain 1 second in the 1/4 over the previous genertaion.

but that's what I was getting at. I dont think this car is going to come out of the gate with 600+hp.....for a couple of very simple reasons.....1.) The ASC Viper, that was bumped up to like 615-650hp range, was an aftermarket job done by McLaren. While this could very well be offered, I dont see if being offered as a SRT-10 Viper, essentially meaning it will be an upgrade kit much like the Hennessey Viper. Bragging rights for sure, but by no means rolling off the assembly line like an SRT-10.
2.) They have to keep the Viper affordable, and how much of a price jump would that ASC be? This, I have no idea, but it cant be super cheap....
3.) To my knowledge, there has never been a supercar/exotic that was N/A that exceeded 600hp without the help of some kind of forced induction i.e. supercharged/turbo'd....
(When I say there never has been, I'm referring to models being sold...not concepts or aftermarket jobs....I mean you can walk into the dealership and get a 600hp N/A Viper and drive it off the lot.)
I'm not trying to make the Viper look a failure.....I'm simply not going to sit here and start bragging about what hasnt happened yet. Honestly, I love seeing the SRT-10/Z06 on a more level playing field because I like watching the competition. It's a great show to watch two legit icons in automobile history battle it out.
Well, Wednesday night will be the last oppertunity for Dodge to do what they said they would, that being bringing out the new toy at this years VOI. So stand by.
I'm sure Dodge is not making this new Viper without thinking about the Z06... So, I think we'll all be pleased... That's all I'm saying... No one is "bragging"...
If you've paid attention to the possible changes... Then you might think like this too...
I'm only defending the point your making that the Viper won't be making a "big jump"...

If it does get announced I predict at the dinner, also keep in mind the time difference. I will be sleeping by then.

They'll think of the current Z06, but not future z06. I can't see the Viper being a terrific advantage over the Vette...
Also Dodge is going to beef up the engine, then cheap out the interior...it's the American way.
