Viper SRT-10, Whats your opini
No offense to anyone, I like the Viper, but why does it cost $83,000? It has the same interior as most other Dodges. The engine and transmission are in the Ram SRT-10 and it only costs $46,795. Shouldn't the Viper be around there? I figured they want the Viper to be rare and special so maybe thats why they upped the price, but technically couldn't they price it for cheaper if they wanted to?
No, I went to the Viper plant and I can see why it cost so much. The engines are handbuilt there at the plant. Two people build each complete engine by hand. The cars are build by hand too, no robots or anything. Limited production of the Viper leads to 1,200 copies a year. They will never exceed that number. Also the build quality of these cars are outstanding. Here is a little fact, a guy I know on the Viper assembly line told me... Did you know, that out of the 1,200 Viper built a year, the Conner/Mack Ave Plant (where they are built) goes through 12,000 Viper windshields a year? These cars are scanned over and over again w/ blacklights to make sure every little detail is perfect. Also, every engine is dyno tested as well as the engine/rolling chasis combo. If the engine doesn't produce at least (say the new 8.3L V-10) 500 horsepower and 525 ft-lbs of torque, like lets say 498 horsepower and 521 ft-lbs of torque, the engine will be ripped out of the chassis, if it has made it that far, the chassis will come off the assembly line and have to restart before it left off w/ the motor, and the motor will be torn apart and be completely rebuilt till it gets that amount of power.

GM builds 50,000 Vettes a year, and every 50th Vette down the assembly line gets dynoed. They just want to make sure if roughly makes that amount of power. Where DCX makes sure every engine and car are tested. Dodge is deciated at making the world's most powerful and yet affordible roadster! Does that anwser your question?

They are indeed a wonderful creation. I hope they would make a poor mans version, mass produced, like the vette. As of right now, I may be able to buy one that is totaled out of a junkyard in about 10 years.

Well thats what I have been hearing for the past year! I wish it was the 1999 Charger R/T Concept Car, that had to be Chrysler's biggest mistake in not producing that (as well as the 300 HEMI C). But I would like to see it as a 2-door w/ a cross of Charger R/T Concept and the 2004 Pontiac GTO kinda setup.
