Default Removing Hardcore Dirt / Water Spots From Windshield ???

I just bought a used 1994 Dodge Shadow ES. The windshield just looked a bit dirty with dirt and water spots ... kinda like you might see after a rain or whatnot. Well, I ran the car through a car wash (Autobell) the other day and the spots are still there. Today I tried Windex and Rain-X Window Cleaner and tried a little 'elbow grease', and they are still there. They seem pretty much 'sun burned' in there. I think the car sat for a long time and wasn't cleaned off or something.

Is there a product that can get out those hardcore dirt / water spots? It definately appears to be on the outside and not the inside. Actually, it is on the other windows too, not just the windshield.

Someone told me today that if a hardcore product doesn't work, I might have to have the windows "buffed". Not sure what that involves.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

you could try "buffing" the windshield with a clay bar. it gets stubborn stuff (tree sap in my experience) out of the body paint. use the windex as a lubricant and scrub up with the clay. i've never done this to my windows, i read a tip from a car detailing site, autopia.com iirc.

Thanks dak0ta_g33k. I basically gave up on the forum here ... it seems a bit dead.

I ended up ordering some Autoglym ... I am going to try that out and see what happens.

Thanks though for the suggestion.

For anyone else that might have this issue Amway makes a glass cleaner that works wonders. What a clay bar wouldn't remove on my windshield the Amway glass cleaner took right off...

At work if we get cars like that, we use a solvent like paint thinner. It takes it off. Then we clay bar it and then buff it with a polisher. Wolfgang makes a special window polish.
