Default Blacking out badges and Wheels questions

Hello all. I have a some questions on a ongoing project I am working on. I would like to mod my Durango to just a green and black exterior. Most of it came stock that way with the body paint green and minor trim parts black(plastics etc.). I am sure you know what I'm talking about. In my opinion I don't really care for the shiney chrome looking badges, the ones that say 4x4, SLT, DURANGO and so on. I want to keep them but I would like to make them either semi-gloss or gloss black. The stock wheels are the dull silver type and to me they don't fit what I am going for and just don't match the vehicle.

My guess for at least the badges they only come in the "chrome" and nobody makes them black. I know I could find black wheels but I like the look of my stock ones and I want to keep this as much of a do it my self project as I can.

What would you suggest for doing this to the badges? Use the heatgun method to remove them one by one then paint and restick them? Would I need to re-apply whatever "goo" they use to get them on at the factory? Would it be better to mask them off and paint them on the truck? What type and brand of paint would be best for this and where can I buy it? I am open to any help or suggestions you can offer.

I am sure the wheels will not be that easy. For these I am also looking for the semi-gloss or gloss black look. I there any way I can mask them on the vehicle and paint them? What paint should I use? Again and help would be great.

Great site Glad I found it. I looking forward to your suggestions.

Default RE: Blacking out badges and Wheels questions

Hey. The best idea for the lettering would be to take them off sand them down and paint them whatever color you want. As far as the rims go it would be really tough to paint them on the vehicle. I know it would be a little more of a pain in the butt, but your best bet would be to have them powder coated black. It a little more expensive but they will be more durable and last a lot longer.
