2 good camshaft articles
a fresh off the newstand article:
http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...aft_profiling/
and an 'oldie but goodie' from NASCAR Motorsports Education director David Vizard of UNC-Charlotte
http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/c...ech/index.html
I believe it was last year
that Chrysler CEO Tom LaSorda
said he was going to ask his engineers
what kind of
'nearly free MPG gains'
were available on DCx engines if the camshafts
were optimized for "daily driving"
rather than 5000 rpm max horsepower 'advertising wars'
Most Dodge gasoline engines cruise on the highway between
1600 and 2200 rpm.
I wonder what MPG improvement could be had
if the 'optimum' camshaft was installed for that speed range
and the overdrive gear ratio was changed to make use of the
greater 'bottom end' torque increase?
My guess would be
more than 5%
but less than 15%
