Timing belt broke at 60mph Any Hope 4 me?
[:@]The timing belt shredded at 60mph. At first I didn't know what was up cause the car just died. No loud noises or anything It just died and wouldn't start again. The shop told me the belt was toast and quoted me 2500.00 parts & labor. I can see the belt is broke and have heard horror stories about bent valves, holes in pistons ect. The motor Turns over freely with no unusual noises or binding. Should I tear the motor down to the short block to inspect the heads, pistons and valves or could I have gotten lucky and just need to replace the timing belt pullys and waterpump. Or would It be more cost effective to just replace the motor If I can find one reasonably priced. It is the 2.5 liter V6
I'm assuming that you have the 2.5L V6 Avenger (since you posted in there
). The bad news is that you have a likely chance that you do have bent valves and pitted pistons because those 6g73 motors are "interference" motors. You were quoted $2500 because they are quoting you an engine rebuild. Sorry bro, but at 60mph, a timing belt breaking on you like that, spells bad news[>:]
