I need to setup my 04 Dodge Ram 1500 for electric brakes.

I currently only have the 4-pin hook up, and I need a 7-pin.

How can I go about installing the new hook up? Is there a kit available?

Also, is the Dodge pre-wired for the brake controller, or do I have to run all the wires for it?

It is pre-wired, but you will have to buy a pigtail harness from, you guessed it, your local Dodge parts dept.!

 

I was able to purchase the pigtail off the internet.....If I can find the URL I will post it for you...It was much less than what the dealer wanted to charge...

 

If you have the factory trailer towing package, you should already have the harness. Mine was tucked in one of the rear seat storage compartments. The one for my '99 Durango was in the rear deck storage area. Both had the factory trailer tow packages, but both also came with the 7-pin connectors at the back. Not sure with the 4-pin connector what set-up yours has.

 

It did not have the towing package, so I had to get it wired.....


Cost me $180 for the trailer shop to install my 7-pin connection, and install my brake controller. I don't feel that is too bad considering they had to completely wire the setup!

But it works now!
