Default Liftgate hits garage top

We just traded in our '97 Grand Caravan for an '04 Town & Country. When we open the power liftgate, the liftgate raises so high as to hit the top of the standard 7' garage door opening. Does anyone know of a way to restrict the maximum opening of the liftgate?
Lacking a true engineering fix, I may install some padding on the garage door opening.
Thanks!

Hit the lift gateopen and hold the door so it doesn't go all the way... if it closes it self that's not going to work, but if it simply disengages and lets you hold it there, try using a cord of some sort to stop the lift gate from rising any higher than a certain point...

If it shuts itself instead of letting you hold it, that's a fail safe thing and there's going to be more trouble figuring out a way to stop the lift gate...

Does that all make sense... ? LOL!! Hope so!!
