Removing Gravel Guard ??
Hey guys. I have a '98 Dakota. And the previous owner had some sort of gravel guard protective liner on the rear of the truck (the lower-rear panels behind the wheel well, and a small strip along the bottom of the tailgate. I have a rollpan that I want to put on now, but first want to take all this crap off because its quite faded & looks horrible. As you can see in the pictures, I started picking away at it with a plastic paint scraper, and it does a decent job. But the scrapers get dull quite quickly & become pretty useless. The paint under the gravel guard is in pretty decent shape...so I was hoping to get this done without having to repaint the sections. But it doesn't look like I have too many options. There is some rust as well on the underside of the panels, so that would have to get sanded down & repainted anyways. What do you think the best way to tackle this is? Should I just sand down all of the panels & re-paint it? Or just keep chipping away...which could take forever. Or try something else? Thanks in advance.

I'd try a solvent , laquar thinner/mineral spirits ... Since you don't know what he used you'll have to experiment to see what cuts it ... Should melt off with the right solvent then wax the paint after it's clean ....
