Transaxle leak - Ideas?
Hi folks,
My wife's 2000 Grand Voyager has developed a serious transmission leak and I'm stumped as to where it's coming from. The van has a 3.3 L with the 41TE automatic with about 115,000 miles on the odometer. The transmission works flawlessly until all of the fluid has leaked out. When I inspected it, there is quite a bit of fluid pooled on top of the back of the transaxle, but not too many ways to have gotten there. The lines to the transmission cooler appear to have been seeping, but not enough to account for the amount of oil on the opposite side of the transaxle.
The only possibilities I can think of are an axle seal failure or a sensor or switch (that isn't easily seen) that has began to leak.
Any ideas would be appreciated as a trip to the shop doesn't sit well with my wallet right now.
Thanks,
David

It is actually a somewhat common problem yet very few seem to know about it. The trans case is porous and the fluid seeps out of the case, you don't know it until that pool gets full enough to reach that top case bolt hole and the fluid wicks out the threads. Unfortunately it means you need a new case.
Well, took it in to the shop and apparently something in the differential broke and cracked the transmission case enough that the transmission needed to be replaced. Oh well.
