2005 Dodge Dakota Cutting Off
I have a 2005 Dodge Dakota Laramie with about 36,000 miles on it. It has been Intermittently cutting off and intermittently rough idling for about a year. It will stall out on deceleration every two or three months but you can never tell when or where it will do it. The problem is kind of scary because I cannot hear the truck cut off, the first warning I get that it has stalled out again is that my power steering is gone and I have to fight the steering wheel to finish my turn. I have had a couple close calls with cars and curbs as a result. I have taken it to the dealer repeatedly and they have kept it and tested one thing and another only to give it back saying they can't find anything wrong (the computer isn't showing any codes). They have drove all my gas out twice and returned the truck on empty with the same diagnosis, (can't find anything wrong). I kept after them till they contacted a Chrysler Corp Regional Tech and he told them two things to check. First he said for them to drop the transmission pan and check the filter to see if it had any cracks in it. He said on some trucks the filters were cracked and the transmission was sucking air instead of fluid which freaked the transmission out and it would cut the truck off. The checked that and said there were no cracks. The second thing the Chryslers Tech said for them to check was for oil build up underneath the throttle body. They checked and there was no oil build up.
They decided at this time to put the co-pilot (has a new name but I don't remember it) on my truck and they left it on there for a month. They gave me the instruction to push the button if the truck cut off but unfortunately it never cut off during that month and they needed to put the co-pilot on other vehicles so I had to return it. The following weekend the truck cut off twice in one day. I was very upset so I called them and told them. The dealer service manager said he didn't know what else to tell me to do. [>:]
The truck still continues to cut off with no solution. I called and spoke with a guy from NHTSA and he said many of the Rams had the same problem and the problem was the RPM was set too low in the computer. Dodge apprantley reprogramed the computer on the affected trucks and everything was better. I have no way to reprogram my computer so I don't know what to do? If anyone has any solutions I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!!!
