Default '99 Durango Oil Consumption

Listed this in the Durango forum, but thought I'd try here as well, since the 5.9L isn't unique to the Durango. Has anyone had a problem with oil consumption going up in their 5.9L? I have a '99 Durango, about 129K miles now, and it has recently begun to use oil- about a quart every 1200 miles or so. Never used a drop until the last couple of months; still runs fine, plenty of power, no noticeable smoke, no visible leaks. I've heard of intake manifold gaskets causing trouble on these vintage engines- is that a possible source of my problem? Wondered what experience anyone else has had, or what they've heard on the subject.

If you can hear a spark knock on HARD acceleration..... You might need an Intake/Oil Gally pan gasket

I'll back up the other 2 on the intake lower plenum gasket. Real common to the 5.2/5.9.

I have a 1999 dodge ram qc 4x4 and at 33,000 developed pinging whenever I tryed to accelerate quickly.Over the the next 4,00 miles the dealer installed 2 TSBs one to reroute sparkplug wires which didnt help in any way and then installed the infamous DEATH FLASH to the computer which did not help either. I started to look up info on the my problem and discovered that when dealing with this problem first and foremost DO NOT ALLOW the dealer to flash new code to the computer. Well I found out after the fact and found out the hardway about that code they uploaded, it killed the performance of my truck. From that day on I didnt and still do not enjoy driving it, its a pig, I really cannot even use overdrive. When I do drive it its in drive and often I drive it as if it were a stick, starting out in first and bumping it into 2nd and drive when the rpms get up over 3,000. I really couldnt believe that dodge would do that to its customers and because of that I'll not own another mopar product. I actually was just in to the dealors parts counter to order an interior part for the truck and got to talking to the parts guy about how I still hate driving the truck even after owning it since Nov 98. He told he would see if dodge had come out with new code since then that might get my truck back the power it once had. Three days later he called and said he had found new code but when I asked if it would give my truck back the power he said he could not assure me that it would so I called a 1 800 number for dodge and after 42 minutes talked to a Tech Specialist he said there had not been any code developed by dodge to address my (and many hundreds if not thousands) of people with the same problem.. As for my dealer at a charge of 85 bucks to install the new level code I decided it wasnt worth it been screwed once by them (dodge) Never Again

see my post titled OIL CONSUMPTION: Intake Manifold Plenum

the TSB is 09-05-00

http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2000/09-05-00.htm

I had oil consumption problem at about 40K, and now again at 84K. Dodge paid the first time, but won't do it again. They won't even acknowledge it as a problem, even though they issues a TSB.
