lost reverse gear, and possibly 1st, in 46re.
i've got a 200 dodge dakota r/t. i believe it's got a 46re tranny. the reverse gear does not engage, although it seems to just slightly sometimes. i could be wrong about it working slightly tho. anyway, i've also noticed that if i'm cruising in 2nd gear and manualy shift to 1st, i have no engine breaking... it drives fine in the forward gears.the fluid looks fine and does not smell burnt. what could be the cause of this and what can i do to try fixing it?this has been a problem for a few months, and i've just noticed a ticking or knocking sound coming from the rear of the motor or front of the tranny. any suggestions? thanks
The reason your reverse geardoesnt work properly is most likely the Rear band that holds that Rear clutch drum is bad. You might need a overhaul for your truck. As for ticking I couldnt tell you much since there isnt muchin that bellhousing other than the torque converter. It could be the converterbut it could not be also.
