I love Dodge...but...
Hello eveyone. I have a topic to discuss/ponder about. I have a 2002 Durango 360 4X4. I have noticed the braking is ok but not great. Then I realized that it was only rear wheel ABS and 4 wheel was optional for that vehicle. Well, I did some checking and found that 4 wheel abs wasn't standard and almost any Dodge until 2003. I find this funny because my grandmother has a 1998 Expedition with standard 4 wheel abs. I find it interesting that Dodge would cut corners and and take the cheap way out until 2003 when Ford has been making the better system standard for 4-5 years before. What is your take on this?
Rear ABS was common on pick ups and SUV's that were light in the rear. The Excursion is the size of a Chevy Tahoe, both are heavy, so both needed ABS all the way around. The Durango, Exploder, and other "small" SUV's didn't have the weight, so they needed the ABS assist to keep the back tires from locking in panic stops when what weight they do have all went to the front wheels. If you do more checking, 4 wheel ABS started becoming more common on ALL SUV's and pick up's about 3-4 years ago, and it's still optional on a lot, too..

As for the ABS it doesn't really depend on heavy or light vehicles just depends on what the purpose of the vehicle is mostly but 4-wheel ABSis gona be standard on almost everything eventually.
