Default Odd smell when defrost is turned on

I'm stumped by this issue and I hope you can help.

When I have the defrost turned on in my 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan, there is a very odd smell emitted. The only way I can describe this smell is a cross between something burning and something wet. It's very odd.

It only occurs when defrost is on. If regular heat is turned on it does not smell. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

The a/c compressor comes on with the defroster so the smell has something to do with the a/c....you probably have fungus build-up on your evaporator. That's the most common cause of the mildew smell...

Thanks for the input...I will check that as well since I have still had no luck figuring it out.
