Where did my lights go?
Alright, I am having problems with my headlights going on and off every time I turn on my bright lights! I have sylvannia hyperwhite bulbs and haven't had any problems until a month or so ago...it is only the head lights that go on and off (parking lights stay on)..after I turn the brights back off, the low beams shut on and off for a minute or so and then after that there is no problems. I'm not sure what I could have done to make it do that, but i'm afraid it will do it on the highway and cause me to lose sight of the road and crash and burn! If anyone has had any similar problems or heard of anyone having this problem, please offer me some suggestions on what to check. Thanks
My 93' T-bird had a similar problem. Turned out to be a faulty headlight switch (not the switch for the brights). I also know of quite a few Dakotas that have had faulty headlight switches. I suggest you pick up a new one a Vatozone and give it a try. If it doesn't solve your problem, just save the reciept and get a refund.
I think I found the problem...one of ther terminals in the plug had melted and was making it short out when it heated up (doesn't do it for the first 5 minutes or so you have the lights on)...i'm gonna call around and see if I can find one at a salvage yard before I go buy one from the dealer!!! Thanx for the input!
It seems like this is just a post to myself but, I ended up having to go to the dealer and purchase a new headlight switch assembly (couldn't find a salvage)....$100 later, my lights seem to be working fine, but only time will tell I guess.
be aware when using hotter watts (bulbs). you can get better insulated sockets at autozone by apc for 10 bucks each. they will put up with the high watts, i coverted my 95 wrangler to h4 bulbs and was using a 110/85 watt bulb set that melted my sockets. they would do the samething as you have mentioned. i run a set of 100/80 watt bulb in my 97 ram no problems yet but, i plan on using the upgraded sockets anyway. my 2 cents Dennis
