I know this isn't a Ford site, but since I'm a member...

On my wifes 1998 Ford Contour we've got what I'm calling a ghost radio problem. Under normal circumstances the radio will stay on after the ignition is turned off until a door opens. Thats all good right now, except that the radio will turn itself back on when the door is shut and the interior lights turn off after a few seconds. I removed the fuse for the radio so not to run the battery dead, but the radio continues to work. So now I've just removed the negative battery cable. Any ideas?

 

check the door switches for intermittant operation ...Remove them and clean them up ... sometimes dirt/rust ect can screw them up

 

need to pull the radio and make sure the wires arent crossed behind it.. i would start lookin for a short to power with it..

 

Also some use relays could be a bad relay
