Default 1987 Colt Vista 4WD . . . my orphan car needs a part!

Your menu of topics doesn't cover my car! There are no owner's groups anywhere, as far as I can tell. Parts support is evaporating. I am trying to renew all systems on this car, which might make it the last one running. Too bad; it's a good concept, and not a bad machine if given reasonable maintenance.

I'm currently in need of the left (driver's) side drive shaft center bearing (hanger bearing) assembly. This is a non-removable part; the manual shows you how to split it for removal. But now I can't find a new one. The Mitsubishi PN is MB297698, but the Mitsu dealer here says that number only applies to Dodge Vistas.

Anybody have one on the shelf?????

I ordered new L and R drive axles through my machine shop, from A-1/Carbone. They arrived without the hanger bearing. The shop returned the cores with the old bearing. But according to the Chrysler manual, the bearing can't be saved anyway (although if I had known what was in store I might have found a way!). Phoned Carbone; they say they never include that bearing. I don't want to try to salvage a used one, but may be forced to do something like that. It's an assembly with several parts. Funny, a 1987 car doesn't seem very old to me, but I'm a senior, and no judge of such things.

I gave up trying to find the assembly. I'll use a 206 sealed bearing and make the other parts on the lathe.
