Default Transmission readout problem

Hey guys,
I have an '02 Dodge Ram 1500 which has never given be any problem, especially with the tranny, until now.

About two weeks ago it began to shift late. It would rev very high for a few seconds and shift into the next gear at the very last second. Then, about three days ago, I parked it on my lot, then started it and proceeded to drive it to the other end, then attempted to park it again. This time, however, the read-out on the dash would not shift all the way into park, while the truck still does. This causes obviously problems as the truck will not shut-off due to the computer thinking the shifter is still in reverse.

Sorry, I'm filling this out in kind of a hurry. Basically if I put the truck in park it still reads reverse. If I put it into reverse it STILL reads reverse. Then it shows the proper setting for each location on the read-out (n, p, etc.). I checked the shifter under the car and the actual tranny seems to be shifiting and working fine, it's just the read-out.

Is there anything I can do? I hate taking my truck in for someone else to work on...

Thanks for all your help,
Y.

Default RE: Transmission readout problem

Fixed it - just jam the shifter up very hard. It'll pop back into park. (and works fine now too)
