2004 1500 Ram Cooling Issue
Good Day Everyone!
I got a 2004 Ram 1500 Quad Cab V-8 4.7 liter. I seem to have a cooling issue.
ABout two weks ago out of nowwhere it stated to run hot. Let it cool, checked coolant level and added 1/2 gallon coolant to radiator. Ran great for about 3 hours of a 4 hour trip and then agian started getting hot. Replaced Thermostat. Worked great for about 1 day and then again hot. Flushed out coolant system. Radiator has no flow issues (had hose in top and plug out on bottom and had great flow). Refilled coolant, "burped", and was good to go. Drove it around for about 2 hours - no problems. Next day after 15 minutes of driving started to get hot again. No loss of coolant what so ever, water flow seems to be fine through system ( radiator is hot on return side, cool on other side and I can feel the flow by holding the radiator hoses with engine running).
Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks
Mike

stathole
this may not help but its just info
Moe in Wichita,KS. I read a story about one time when Chrysler changed the co. that made stats for them. the new co. was used to making very close tol. valves, and the stats they made for Chrysler were air tight. to get a cooling system to fill easly Chrysler engeners said to drill a 1/8 inch hole around the outer edge. i have done this for decades, with no trouble.
to seal the stat use permatex #2 put a small amount in the grove in the housing. and some on the other side side of the stat then put the gasket on. but not the side of the gasket that goes to the manafold. this keeps the sealant where its easer to clean the next time you take it apart. as a point of ref on the stat the spring goes to the engine.
