Default anyone ever done a 318 to 349 stroker kit? (magnum)

i'm interested in upping the torque without swapping to a 360 down the line. for those of you who've done this, what is your experience with it? would it be a good idea to get new mopar heads and bore it as well? and would you need new exhaust manifolds (or headers if it's worth the upgrade)? also which intake would i require, the m1? i don't want to swap to carb.

What's your ultimate goal with the engine. From an economic standpoint the 360 swap would make the most sense. I'll see if i can't get you a link on the SB Mopar stroker build-up.

i just want to be around 400 torque, the stroker seems like too much work. perhaps new heads and roller rockers might work nicely. there's 1.6 and 1.7 ratio, what is the difference in performance?

It would be like installing a slightly bigger cam.

For example, if you have a cam with .300" of lift with a 1.6 rocker, that same cam would have .319" of lift with the 1.7 rockers.
Can't say for sure if you would notice this by itself.

I'm thinking of stroking my 360 out to a 408 when it goes out on me. Not sure what I'd have to do to make the fuel injection work with it. It's either that or build an older 440 for it.

It seems that you don't hear too much good about stroker motors lasting any length of time. That would be the only thing that bothers me.

A performance PCM and injectors would probably be able to compensate for the increased volume, wouldn't you think?

In college I had a '72 Chevy with a 383 Stroker (350 block with 400 crank) and that thing was a beast. Held up to a LOT of abuse too. As long as you take your time on the buildup, and maintain it properly, it should last just fine.

I would definately go with a 55mm Throttle Body, and I'd have to research the injectors. I'm sure there's something available. The fuel pump would have to be upgraded for the extra volume required, and I may have to increase the size of the fuel lines. Not sure on the PCM at all though. I know I can make something work, but I don't know if I can make it work RIGHT...

I personally hate fuel injection. Too much of a pain in the ***, and not adjustable enough. I like carburators. If it's not running right, I can fiddle with a few adjustment screws, change the jets, and tune it in.

If all else fails, Edelbrock has that bolt on EFI system for smallblock Mopars. The only thing is the cost.

Manciniracing has a 318ci. to 390ci. via a 3.94 bore and 4.00 stroke. Talked to Art Cowan Not in kit form yet but is ava. but same price as 360 stroker just less bang? He said computer has to be re-burn, I'm assuming thats the pcm? Injectors have to be upped too.Been thinking bout it myself. http://store.yahoo.com/chucker54/smblstki.htm Happy hunting?[sm=interesting.gif]
