Struts....
Ok...so I've never owned cars...cept for a ford t-brid..anyways.
My mother has a 96 intrepid...and it needs the struts replaced. Just wondering if anyone knows how hard this is going to be...or should I get the parts and take it to a shop.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated....
I gotta get parts too....uugg

Struts are easy if you have even a basic set of hand tools.
The only difficult thing is switching the springs from the old ones to the new ones.
You can usually rent a spring compressor from a local rental place or an Autozone or similar store.
Air tools help make the task a little easier.
Make sure you align the vehicle after you're done.
This is not SUPER critical as only the camber will change for the most part and that is not a wear angle.
But have it aligned anyway, with Hunter equipment. ('cause I work for Hunter and I said so damnit!) lol j/k
PM me if you have more specific questions, it is my area of expertise. One of 'em anyway.

they are generaly easy on the 96 trep just be careful of the pich bolts in the rear they can be a pinta i had the ones on my 96 concorde snap at the head and had to drill them out. if i had to do them again on that car i would consider a shop but probally do them myself lol
I have to agree with Thump here Holly. I did the rear struts in my Monte last spring. Had to warm up the pinch bolts with an acetylene torch. Got the knuckle a little too warm and destroyed the ABS sensor. [:@] I bought a spring compressor tool for $12 at Harbor Freight. Only other difficult part was getting the nut on the end of the strut rod torqued down properly inside the car...
I almost took it to a shop when I started having problems with it. But now that I've done it and know what to look for, I'd do it myself again. Give me a call if you run into problems with it.
