Default idle problem at startup???

I have a 2004 ram 1500 with fuel injected magnum v8. I bought this used about 5 months ago. i have noticed a startup problem that occured when the weather started getting hot. Could be a coincidence though. Normally the engine will rev to around 1000 rpm like it should do at start then settle back to around 600. But now it has ben reving up to 1000 and droping back down then up again. Sometimes around 5 or six time with this up and down reving then it settles back to normal. If i hit the gas during this it will rev up while my foots on the gas but then drop back to almost stalling when I take it off. I bought this at a hyundai dealer not a dodge dealer. They have been no hope since it only does it at the first startup and not after it warm. it also is not an everyday thing but it frequent enough that i realise there is a problem. They think i'm nuts but i think its them who are nuts. I have a full waranty that covers everything but what good is it if they can't find anything. Anyone have suggestion on what the problem could be i would appreciate it. Thanks...Mike

sounds like the idle speed motor is dirty or in need of replacement.

Tom thanks for the reply. I don't have a lot of experience with fuel injection and modern cars. Used to work on my cars when i was younger but that was all carbureator and none of the electronics we see now. These newer cars are like learning Chinese to me. But i'm trying to learn. Thanks for giving me a direction to look in.

Default RE: idle problem at startup??? Additional Questions

I have been told by some to clean the idle air control valve or idle speed control motor as some call it but someone else told me once they start having problems it's better to replace it. I havent been able to find one at none of the autopart places for this year and on. They would have to order it for me. Before i do so i want to be sure that this is it. Someone told me i should get a check engine light and code and i am not getting any codes. Should i recieve a code for a problem with this. Could this just be a fouled throttle body? Just want to be sure before i buy the part. Thanks...Mike
