Default 1995 intrepid trans problem

I recently "inhereted" a 1995 intrepid with 92000 miles on it but a couple of days ago the transmission quit working on me. After i pulled off it started to work but only with 2nd, and reverse. ive been told this is a limp mode it has. anyone know why it would do this or how to fix it? any help is appreciated

I am having this same problem on my Dodge Dynasty 1993. 18 degrees here this am, that is frozen transmission lever. I am new to forum and see that there are 5 posts listed, but I can only see three. Also can't start car. Dead silence from engine, however tape tack and heater come on just fine.

sounds like a sensor such as a transmission sensor so it wont start the car while its in gear, or some other sensor on the engine. but i believe that is the most likely
