Default 96 ram transmission

Hi I have a 96 Ram with the 360 and auto transmission. My tranny is starting to go bad[:@] Always has a whinning sound in overdrive and likes to get hot and shuts overdrive off by itself. which doesnt say much for dodge since it has one of there rebuilt units in it right now with only about 40,000 miles on it. And thats after replacing the original one with only about 60,000 on it. Any way my question is I was hoping somebody out there could give me an idea of where to buy my next tranny one that wouldnt blow up right away. Or even if any body knows is it possible to convert a auto to a manual, any kits out there? any ideas ? thanks.
My mechanic said that my torque converter is slipping and in order to get rid of the annoying whinning sound I would need to replace the transmission.

Also, one of the sponsors of DF is Southeast Performance. Give them a call, talk to them. I can't remember the owner's name, but I've talked to him a few times. Great guy. He builds Dodge motors for stock cars. Anyway, he's got a buddy that does auto transmissions for race applications. Get ahold of them and see what they can come up with for you if you want to stick with an automatic.

as a dodge master tech not posting my name i agree, the problem in 85% of remans is the torque converter
if it was me iwould buy a dodge reman and bring my own torque converter to be installed, good luck!
oh ya when you do that ck the pump bushing for scoring where the t/c rides!good luck!
