I had a problem like this once on my dodge daytona. The temp gauge needle would wander all over: sometimes it would get to very hot and stay there a while, then it would come down and stay there. Thermostat was ok. Cooling system was ok. Turned out that the heater core was clogged, and after they fixed that everything was back to normal. Maybe you have a different problem, who knows... My heater wasn't very hot, so that prompted me to ask them to check it.

yep... have that problem now.. 96 dodge ram 1500 just bought it six months ago. I would drive then all of a sudden my heat would dissapear and my guage would go hot. ... then I would hear a gurgle in the dash (heater core I presume) and my heat was back on. then My radiator blew up. good thing is that Any cooling/heating problems are taken care of in the due bill sooooo, problem is.. I'm 1500 miles away from the dealership [&o]

Typical low coolant complaints.
Have ya ever checked your coolant or noticed any leaks?

I had a similar problem just recently on my Daytona. We changed the thermostat and seems to have solved the problem.

It sounds like a low coolant problem or possibly you have air in your system. Even a bad radiator cap can cause problems if it cannot hold the 12-14 psi it should.
