Neon stalling
We have a 98 Neon with the 2.0 and auto trans. The problem is after about a half hour of driving the car stalls and will not restart for a long while. Our first guess was the fuel pump was getting hot and quitting. New fuel pump did not help, had the car scanned and it said the camshaft sensor was not sending a signal. New camshaft sensor same symptom new code saying the coil pack as a bad primary winding. Same problem, now the crankshaft sensor comes across as bad. New crank sensor, same problem. All of this was scanned with a Snap On scanner. We did check the wiring harness and both the camshaft and crankshaft sensors are receiving the required voltage. Anyone know any TSB'S with this problem? Thanks Jon
I really don't have a clue, but.......it could be the PCM. The only reason I say the PCM is beacause you are putting new parts on and the PCM is giving you the run around and comming back to the same place you started. Did you reset the PCM? Disconnect the battery for like a half hour and see what happens. If that does not work take it to a place with a real computer, I hate to recomend the dealer, but they have one.
Thanks for the input Casper. Looks like the problem was a broken wire ( inside the insulation) about 3/4 of an inch up from the crank sensor plug. Ohmed out the orange wire that connects the the crank and cam sensors to find it, jiggle the wire and it would make or break. It still has a check engine light too investigate but made the 45 minute drive home last night. Hopefully this thing is solved.
