What are some major problems that the neon has, when it has this amount of mileage.

It really depends on how it was maintained. I'd probably look hard at the suspension and see how it drives. Take a look at the maintenance records if they have any.

 

They are pretty good little cars. I have almost 160k on mine and the only problems I have had were clutch, headlights, tires and timing belt.

126000 Had to replace valve cover gaskets>>>Leaking oil
143000 Had to replace front struts>>>>Front end bouncing up and down
156000 Had to replace the cam sensor>>>>Leaking oil
163000 Had to replace the Head Gasket>>>Water in oil

Other than that it has been a great fun little car.
