Trans leak on 87 Dodge Aries
I have an 87 Dodge Aries with (as far as I'm aware of) origianl transmission / engine. It has either 122000 or 222000M on it (odomoter roled over on me once, and am not sure before that). Anyways, a few days ago as I put my car in park I noticed light red fluid pouring out out from near the transmission fluid pan. It wasnt coming from the pan itself, but near it behind the engine (there is a metal plate with 13 mm bolts running approx perpendicualr to ground. My question is this. I was already planning on having a "transmission flush" done by my mechanic -- however considering the age of the car / leakage should I just go ahead and have the trans rebuilt? I cant afford a new car / late 90's car right now, so I need the car to last atleast another 2 - 3 years (the power stearing pump also leaks), but a friend is going to do that work for me.
My guess is that it just a bad gasket / seal in the trans, but with it leaking that bad there may be damage to the trans already.
What should I do? Flush with new gaskets etc or rebuild ? Rebuild will cost more but should gaurentee atleast that wont go out for a while.
Thanks in advance.
