Transmission problems-Durango
Hi all, we had a '99 Durango that recently celebrated it's 6th birthday.
However, while driving today, we noticed the car started to act kind of odd. It would go into 2nd gear and would not want to upshift. Later in the day, we decided to drive it to the mechanic. While driving behind the Durango, I heard a lound clunking noise, then smelled a strong oil-like smell. The car broke down completely 2 miles from the mechanic.
The mechanic says that it's a transmission problem (obviously) and said it would probably have to be rebuilt. A few questions.
1. On average, how much is a transmission rebuild?
2. Would it be cheaper to souce a used transmission from the junkyard instead of rebuilding it?
Thank you very much.
