Default Cummins Diesel

interested in buying a CTD powered Ram. Pretty much the only question I have as of yet is: how long untl overhaul do these engines usually go? I see a few for sale online with 200K-250K miles on them, and was just wondering how long they usually went.
Also: whenever I actually go to look at one (since, it will be used) what should I look for?
Thanks.

Default RE: Cummins Diesel

first overhaul. . . .some have been running over 300k and still running strong

but things to look for, it realy depends on the year. some 97-99(I think) engines had the infamous 53 casting block. This block was cast in Brazil and had a weak water journel that was prone to crack. hhhmmmm what else. the VP7100 Injector pump (I think thats the model number) had some issues.

but realy, if the engine has that many miles on it I highly doubt you will have any problems with it, most problems croped up within the first 50-75K.

if they are 4x4, check the front ball joints. they tend to be iffy at times.

if I can think of anything else I'll let you know. you can also check out TDR, just click the pic in my sig
