Default Effects of K&N drop in filter in slightly dusty area?

Has anyone seen the K&N drop in filter display that has two fans blowing a pinp pong ball?

With the K&N it is almost to the upper limit and with a Fram it is restricted to the lower area.

Do you use a pre filter with these?

I was just concerned about being in dusty areas several times a year and doing damage.

k&n filters are a oil gauze filter. unlike paper filters they don't offers the same degree of filtration as paper element filters but you need to gice up a little of one to get another. commonly people don't use a pre filter on them unless they are in an extreme dust conditions such as off road racing and such. other then that the oil in the filter does a decent job of stopping fine particles form getting through. i believe one of the most common problems is people tend to clean them to often.
