2000 Ram 1500 5.9L Exhaust Help
I have a few questions about changing the exhaust system on my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L. I have modified the exhaust already from the cats back. I have added 3 inch pipe from the cat to the 12 inch glass pack muffler I installed, then I have a Y-pipe running dual 2.5 inch pipes back to 4x24 inch tips out the back.
I am still young at heart and have a huge lust for loud exhaust. Every vehicle I have driven has had ungodly loud exhaust, my Ram just isn't meeting my standards of loudness. The only muffler shop guy I have talked to told me I have got it about as loud as it can get, but I have heard much louder on other Ram 1500s. The other vehicles exhaust I have had in the past include 83 Ford F-250 w/ 460ci running stock exhaust manifold (no cats) running true dual 3.5 inch pipes to 12 inch glasspacks to 4x24 inch tips, 67 Mustang w/ 390ci running headers with 3 inch true dual exhaust into 12 inch glasspacks, and 96 z-28 camaro 350 LT-1 stock exhaust manifold, race cat out to single borla cat back exhaust split duals out of tranverse mounted muffler. All of the exhaust on the vehicles have had great deep loud sounding exhaust, and I wouldn't mind if my Ram was louder than all of them.
I know the 360ci engine in the Ram has the potential for some great sound, so I need some recommendations on how to get it. I would like to be able to still get this truck inspected (no emissions test required where I live), and I don't want to spend an arm and a leg like I did on my camaro. I also don't want to have the service engine light on (O2 sensor recommendations). When I bought the truck it had a flowmaster muffler on it, and it had a metallic sound to the exhaust, similar to my camaro's borla exhaust. I would like to try and make the sound as deep and loud as possible, without having this metallic sound.
Is it possible to run true duals back from the engine without affecting ground clearance? Reasonable priced header recommendations? Catalytic Converter recommendations? 02 sensor recommendations? Muffler recommendations? I like the 24x4 inch chrome tips I already have, so I will probably stick with them. I do not want to spend more than $800, preferably less. Maybe if gas prices would go down I could spend more, but I am not holding my breath.
I am always about boosting performance, and freeing flowing exhaust is a way to go about it, but after that I am all about the sound. I greatly appreciate any help that anyone can give.

Contact Flowmaster. I have one of their kits with a series 50 muffler. If you get the series 40 or the race muffler, you will be loud enough to rattle the cops windows as you fly past.
Mine has the stainless 2.5 dual tips on either side of the box. I had to do some searching but I found it. The Flowmaster muffler is a chambered one that only takes the harshness out of the sound. It still gets loud at 4500, but when your less than 2000 it's hospital zone quiet.
Want it loud, run it hard. Need it quiet for the nights the missus thinks your home early????? Stay off the throttle. It's not too bad at idle & rolling about 25 mph at 1500, you can hardly hear it.
Running at 60 at 3000, it sounds just like a race car getting ready to leave turn 3.

Cut off the catalitic converter and run a spintech pro street out the back here. I had this exact setup in my 2000 dakota r/t and it was hella loud, but quiet enough with the windows up to have a conversation, and hear the radio, lol. When I ran a turndown, on the other hand, it was a completely different story.
Without spendin' a fortune... Flowmaster 40 series street muff 3" in x 2 x 2.5" out should wake up the neighbors. They're louder than the 50 series. I used to run that before I got the Spintech true duals w/side exhaust... which cost a fortune (GS Motorsports) Their headers too.
This is a clip of that exhaust with a similar cam. Mine's a tad lumpier than this truck... but you'll get the idea.
