A/C - Heater Divertion Control
Greetings, all.
I have a tech question regarding my A/C & Heating unit. Perhaps some kind individual could help me out.
One day last winter I had noticed a problem with the air flow in my heater. All of the sudden without any type of waring while driving the freeway my heater went out. I fiddled with the control switches when I got home and found out that both the AC and heating worked perfectly, but just wouldn't divert through any air duct except the defrosters. I put this matter on the back burner for a year and decided today that I would finally look into it.
This morning I removed the dash and took apart the switch panel to the temperature/AC/heating control. No mechanical parts appeared to be broken nor were any wires severed or disconnected. I looked at every other wiring harness and saw nothing unusual. For that reason I am assuming it must be an electronical device that is worn and in need of replace. The problem now is that I dont know anything about electrical systems and how their components function.
Is there anyone who could suggest to me what box or device may be malfunctioning? I have followed five wires that lead from the diverter **** down to a pushrod-operated cylinder. Both seem fine as mentioned, but I dont know which one I should remove next and have tested.
Again, both the AC and heater work fine, I just cannot get the air to flow through anyother duct other than the defrosters (the foot warmers or the ones on the face of the dash).
My truck is a 1995 1500 SLT Laramie with a 360 motor.
Oh yeah, one more thing- I dont know if this may have had something to do with it but I'll mention it anyway... Two days before this happened I had replaced the sparkplug wires. I mistakenly tugged on another set of wires while attempting to remove the distributor cap. Could this have caused or contributed to my problem?
Any help I could get would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
EF
