Dodge Stealth seems to be Shorting out to a stall
Hello people, My 92 Dodge Stealth R/T (non-turbo) has a very odd problem. Sometimes my car will run fine but usually it will crank...run for about 10 seconds....then it will try to die as if it has a power loss or a short that keeps occuring. Sometimes I will be driving just fine and then all of a sudden it will start to sputter and buck as it is losing power and all the while I keep hearing this clicking noise from in my center console under the dash like its coming from the computer board under there....and the check engine light comes on and stays on. I really don't think it's a code it's throwing.....you know how when you first start your car and it goes through its initial setup and it usually takes a couple seconds for the "Check Engine" light to go off.....well I think each time it shorts out or sputters or whatever you want to call it, I think the computer is constantly re-booting itself to initial setup phase. Each time it shorts, which seems to be about 1-3 times per second, the rpm's instantly drop about 400 each time and I have to keep giving it gas to keep the rpm's from jolting all the way down to where it stalls. If it stalls out then it usually won't crank back up (it will turn over, but not crank). I usually have to stop and wait for about 5 minutes before it will crank back up and continue it's little problem. My "low coolant" light came on at about the same time it started doing this, but I filled my radiator to the top and it is still on, could that have any effect on my problem? I just bought the car about five days ago and it drove the first two days just fine. It does have a terrible burn spot on the hood where the battery is to where the positive post had actually burnt a hole through a spot in the metal on the supporting frame of the hood after burning away the insulation, but even with the hood open this problem still occures. I just can't figure it out and feel like I'm at a total loss. Thanks for taking the time to read guys, sorry so long.
