Default painting stock wheels

painting stock wheels is by no means a huge challenge it is more time consuming. the first thing i would suggest is in paint selection. you want the best quality paint that you can afford. for most people this would be in the form of a spray paint. you want a paint such as a wheel paint or an automotive paint. cheap krylon or rustoleum paint are not the best choice. the color is totally up to you but i prefer darker colors as they don't show the dirt and brake crud as much. next to paint choice prep is the next important thing. i like to start of with good ole dawn dish soap and a stiff brush. try and get into every crack and crevice the you can paint will stick to dirt but makes on heck of a rough finish. after a good cleaning i suggest a good degreaser usally found in the same paint section at the parts store. follow the can directions for best results once again try to get into every crevice possible as paint doesn't stick to grease well at all. after that next would be to scuff the wheels with either a red scotch brite pad or a fine sand paper. the goal of this is not remove the paint but to give the new paint a place to adhere to. one sure sign is that the surface is becoming dull. once the surface is well scufffed once again a degreasing is necassary(remember be thorough this is the last chance you will have to prep the surface) i would suggest wearing rubber gloves for the rest of this process as oil from your hands will also stop paint from sticking. when applying coats of paint be sure to use light coats, don't try to paint all at once. light coats will allow a better finish and help prevent runs. follow the directions on the can letting the paint start to dry between coats. when the level of color is achieved with light coats. a clear coat can be applied over the color in light coats just like the color i would suggest at least 4 coats of clear keep this as even as possible if you need 20 coats of clear to make it even that is better then that is better then having a blotchy finish.
