Need a diagnostic tree for ignition on 1987 Dodge B250 with a 318 2bbl
Had it running good the other day after sitting for about a year and a half, but it crapped out durring a short shakedown drive. The battery in it was KNOWN to be bad and it had been jump started to get it running. Now with a good battery it still won't start. I have fuel, I have compression, the dist. cap and rotor look pretty good(nearly new), and the timing set didn't let go. It ran really sweet with out any stumble or hesitation for a while there, but now has ZERO spark. What should I be looking for? Does this engine have one of those ballast resistors on it? I just need to know where to begin so I don't blindly throw parts at it.
Dave,
OK well first things first: put a new battery in it with a solid charge. My guess is this: the alternator tried like the bejesus to charge a bad battery and fried the ignition module with over voltage.
Just a guess but I will check for a crank-no start chart for ya.
