Check Engine Light
My check engine light on my 02 Durango went on this morning. I'm a beginner, so please bear with my questions....
1) I found the P# on the speedometer......P0456.......however, I can't find this code anywhere?
2) If anyone knows what this code is, is this something a beginner can fix himself, or do I need to take to a shop?
3) How long can you drive with this on? I would prefer to wait and fix myself, but if my car is going to die in the middle of the road, I will get it professionally fixed sooner than later.
Thanks for any thoughts!

Hello Chris I got this for that code - P0456 A small leak has been detected in the evaporative system
Unless anybody else has a better guess, I'm going to say that the last time you filled up you didn't tighten the gas cap all the way.
Believe or not that will trigger the check engine light. Try to tighten your cap and drive 50 or so miles and the code should clear and the check engine light should go off. Or go to then dealer when you get the chance and they might be able to tell you if you need a new gas cap. It happened once to my 01 Dakota Quad but for some reason they replaced my gas cap.

Another problem these vehicles have is the rubber evap. hose beside the engine in front of the master cylinder develops a crack. This hose connects two plastic lines and is only about 3 - 4" in length. If you correct the problem the vehicle has to see three good trips without a failure to turn the light off, so it may take a few days.
