Load ratings for tires go up as the corresponding letter changes. For example, load range "E" tires have a heavier rating than load range "D" tires. Load capabilities of tires change as the psi is lowered. As much as 200 pounds of load-carrying capacity is lost per tire for each five psi below the recommended inflation. This decreased load amount varies from one tire manufacturer to the next; therefore, it is recommended that you contact your tire manufacturer for further information. Make sure that the tire you replace has the same carrying capacity as the one you are taking off. You can do this by using a tire with the same load index, or by checking the maximum load capacity of the tire which is printed in fairly small print near the wheel. On trucks you often won't see this designation in which case you should look for a Load Range such as C, D, E, or F.
