03 durango clutch fan removal
I'm not picturing the clutch assembly. But either it is held on by 4 bolts, (then just take the bolts out) Or the one large bolt...you'll need whatever size wrench that is or a pipe wrench might work. However, it should be a reverse thread, meaning it'll turn to the right to come off. (as you are looking at it)
Its either 4 bolts like said that also hold the pulley onto the water pump or the clutch assembly itself threads onto the water pump, if the shaft going from the clutch to the pulley is hex shaped then thats what it is. If thats the case then you will need to hold the pulley from spinning and get a wrench to break it free. If your fan shroud doesnt say anything about reverse threads then its most likely normal threads.
What I found to be the easiest and fastest way to remove it if the clutch is actually threaded onto the water pump is to get a 2 foot chisel bit for an air hammer and hit one of the edges of the hex shaped shaft, give it a few hits and it spins right off, same method to tighten it up. However this is only faster if you have an airhammer with chisel bit and compressor set up in your garage.

well lets see if i can explane this.
i remove the top of the fan shruod. the fan clutch assembly is set reverse. it goes clutch on the outside, fan wit 4 bolts a really big nut ,i think its 1 1/2" or sumthin like that, the pully which the belt rides on ,then water pump. you cant remove the fan wit 4 bolts cause there is no way to move it. my problem is that i try to loosen the big nut ,but i have no way to hold the pully. there are 4 small holes in the pully wit no threads in them. so i tried to stick a screw driver to hold the pully and loosen the nut but i bent my screw drivers doing so. i tried a rubber strap wrench to hold the pully but still no go.any suggestions.

well they make fan clutch removal kits that they rent at autozone, its basically consists of wrenches big enough to fit over the 4 bolts holding the pulley on. its hard to do even with the tools, the air hammer method is best but it seems like you need another option. do you still have the serp belt on? that usually helps keeps the pulley from spinning a little better but then you still need a little something extra to hold it. id say rent the removal kit for a few bucks and make everything easier on yourself.
