Default 1992 Stealth R/T TT AWD Transmission problem

i have a 1992 dodge stealth r/t tt awd. it is a manual transmission and is currently stuck in 2nd gear. you cannot put it in nuetral or leave 2nd. if you engage the clutch the car will idle and sometime die. the car is driveable in 2nd gear also. any suggestions on what this may be other than "you need a new transmission". thanks

If you have checked the linkage and they are free, disconnect the cables from the tranny and see if the shifter moves. Basiclly if the linkages are fine and the cables are not binding, its an internal transmission problem and you need a new one or have yours rebuilt.

casper,

Great call on the cable going to the tranny! After taking it to the dodge dealership and them wanting to charge $600 to "tear" into the transmission to find the problem, not fix it, i took it to the ford dealership and told them what you said about the cables. low an behold it was a 15 minute fix. the cable had come loose. believe it or not they didn't even carge me to replace a bushing to repair the problem. the car now runs perfect again. thanks!
