What are you driving?
The brake lights and turn signals are the same circuit.

Was the problem there before you spliced the wires?

Is this a factory trailer towing harness?

Does the High Mount(3rd) Brake Light work?

thanks for answering.....no there was no problem...everything was working..the wires to the hitch cover were cut..not to the truck..the truck wiring is intact..i replaced the bulbs..the brake light switch..i found a rectanular blue 20 amp fuse was blown..i replaced it,,still no brake light..i have tail lights, back-up lights.turn and emergency signals..headlights..but no brake lights..even the third brake light does not work..i am baffled. at first i thoght it had shorted something out, but i cannot find anything..i even tried with the hitch cover plugged and unplugged..but still no brake lights..john

Lets start at the begining and pull out fuse 4 and test the terminals that the blades of the fuse are inserted into for power. You need to have 12 volts on 1 of them. double check the fuse again. Next check for power into the brake switch per the diagram, then check for power out of the switch-power should be on the out side when the brake pedal is depressed. Do you have a 4 pin or 7 pin trailer connector?
