Default Intrepid Brakes

I'm sure this question has been asked before but being new to the forum, I'll ask again. I drive a 2003 Dodge Intrepid Police Interceptor. Since we have had the car, we have had an awful time with the brakes, particurly the front brakes. The factory pads squelled so bad, we finally changed them to semi-metallic pads but the car just doesn't stop good. After 5 sets of front rotors, we're about ready to sell the car. It seems to me that the rear brakes are way to small and it seems that they do not do much to help stop the car. We've only changed the rear pads one time. Is the any after market upgrade for the rear brakes or anything new for the front. We haven't had any problems like the brake fires in Nashville but most of the rotors have to be replaced because of heat cracks. Please help, I still love this car.

Yes, we are currently looking at some new rotors made by Bendix that are slotted and drilled, along with matching pads. Thanks for the reply.

depending on the rotors that you buy the majority are produce over seas. remeber when you buy cheap rotors thats what you get. cross drilled and slotted are good rotors give they are seasoned properly when first installed to help limit and stop cracking and heat warpage. Good quality rotors coupled with a good quality ceramic or carbon metalic pads should help your problem.

Just to chime in on Chrysler corp. brakes. The OEM's stuff is about the poorest quality out there. I worked for Chrysler as a mechanical engineer from 1983 to 2001 and brakes were always on people's top ten list of complaints. Yes, they can be noisy. Frequently they need to be repalced with very low mileage. If you are replacing the pads, always be sure to grease the back side. I have found that replacing pads and rotors with a good semi metallic set, like Wagner makes an amazing difference. This was particularly true for my '01 Town and Country Minivan. The stock rotors are thin, and don't disipate heat well. The new Wagners that I replaced the stock rotors with were much thicker and heavier. Great improvement!
