I am planning to rebuild a 2002 Dodge Intrepid SE transmission. In the manual it suggestsre programming the transmission with a DRBII scanner using cartridge 1993. Is this an absolute must or can I skip that? Can anyone advise?

 

When you rebuild the tranny it will have to back through a relearn because of the transmission being rebuilt and the parameters and tolerance being back to new. Your tranny is electronicly controlled this is why it needs to be retrained.

 

Thanks. I was hoping it would retrain itself with all the electronics it has. The scanner cost about $600. so I will have to do some more planning.
