Default Ram Temp Gauge

I have a 1999 ram 1500, 3.9l. 49,000 mi

I currently have 2 problems:

1, My temp sensor goes all the way to hot as soon as I turn the key. Doesn't matter if I start it or not. I am not loosing coolent and everything seems to be ok. It doesn't overheat on me when I drive. This first appeared after my dealer replace the cat. converter. Is this a small problem or a big one?

2, It simply will not hardly start if it has been sitting for more than a couple of hours. It will spit, sputter, backfire, and die. But after I get past this, and it has run for 5 min or more, it will run just fine. Until the next time it sits for more than 2 hrs. Any Ideas?

The temp sensor sounds like a pinched wire or loose ground... perhaps the wiring harness was messed with when they redid teh cat covertor.

As for the stalling problem, perhaps the AIS motor or Throttle Position Sensor... but before I go farther, have you done any mods to the truck?

No. No mods. It is just a standard work truck

Unplug the temp sensor and see if the guage drops to cold
If so, replace the temp sensor if the wireing looks OK, That could be your cold rough running problem also!!!
